FC Augsburg finished their eleventh successive Bundesliga season successfully at the weekend with a 2-1 win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Therefore, the club can now look forward to their twelfth consecutive season in the top flight, in line with the motto “Level 11 completed - Enter Level 12.”

Immediately after the game, head coach Markus Weinzierl announced that he would not be renewing his contract with the club, which was due to expire at the end of the season. “His decision was surprising for us all after the game on Saturday, but we have to accept it,” said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter. Reuter and Weinzierl had talked at length at the club’s internal end-of-season celebration.

The team came together on Monday to complete lactate tests before heading into the summer break. Markus Weinzierl said his goodbyes to the team once more and Stefan Reuter directed some words to the room: “We thank Markus Weinzierl, the coaching and functional teams as well as the whole playing squad for their work this season, which saw us maintain our Bundesliga status for an eleventh year running.” He then wished everyone a regenerative summer break before looking ahead to FCA’s twelfth season in the Bundesliga.
