Jensen: "You can't take your foot off the gas"

In the 2-1 home win against 1. FSV Mainz 05, Fredrik Jensen made his first start of the season. Therefore, the Finn wants to make his mark in the remaining games before the winter break, as he sends a little warning to his opponents.

Fredrik Jensen had a difficult first season in Augsburg. Several ankle injuries to the player from FC Twente have forced him to watch from the sidelines time after time. That is also why Jensen only racked up six appearances in his first season with FCA. “This last season was hard for me mentally and physically,” he says looking back.

The 22-year-old has been spared from injury in the current season, and celebrated after four substitute appearances his first start of the season against Mainz. “I am happy that I got my chance,” explains Jensen. “It was a wonderful feeling.” If he did the lineup, the forward says with a wink, “I would play every week. But the coach picks the lineup that he feels is best for the game.”

Jensen: “On a good day we can beat any opponent”

As FCA picked up another important three points against a team close to them in the table, Jensen saw his fair share of action.  Especially in the strong opening stages, he was heavily involved with Ruben Vargas and Marco Richter in harassing the Mainz backline. “We could have been 4-0 up after 15 minutes,” Jensen says, still incredulous. “That was one of the craziest openers to a game of my career.” Although the visitors took the lead, goals from Richter and Florian Niederlechner saw FCA pick up a deserved home win.

Jensen and his colleagues now want to continue their fine run of form, picking up 10 points from the last four games, against TSG Hoffenheim on Friday 13th December (20:30 CET). “When you’re on a run like this, you can’t take your foot off the gas, because you want to maintain the same performance levels,” emphasizes Jensen, which sounds like a warning to the next opponents in FCA’s current form. For the match in Sinsheim the forward confidently states, “we know that we can beat any opponent on a good day.”
