"I'm very happy that this move to FCA has worked out because I'm confident that the team at FCA and the conditions here will be ideal in order for me to continue my development in. I want to have a successful season here and take on responsibility on the pitch," said the 22-year-old central midfielder. Maier will wear the No.10 shirt at FCA.

"Arne Maier is a young player that has featured for Germany at youth level and captained the U21s to victory at this summer's U21 EUROs. We are pleased that he's decided to join FCA, because we presented him with our vision of where we see him fitting in here, which he was able to fully identify with," said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter.

Richter to join Hertha BSC

In return, attacker Marco Richter will leave FCA to join Hertha BSC. The 23-year-old has completed a permanent move to the capital city.

"Over the last years, Marco Richter has always considered the idea of leaving his local club. Given that we were able to come to a mutually satisfying agreement with Hertha in a short span of time, we agreed to the let him leave," said Reuter.

"I've experienced a very intense time in Augsburg; here is where I made my professional debut. They always believed in me and trusted me. That's why Augsburg will always be a special memory for me.
